Paddle for the Battle: Skokomish Advisory Committee Member, Rita Andrews, organized the intertribal event that took place on September 12, 2026.
There were11 canoes that honored cancer survivors, with 200 attendees. The theme of the event was, “every pull is a prayer”. CCCP hosted a cancer information table and provided inflatable lungs and colon. Fred Hutch provided educational tours for
both.
CCCP took a post-tour survey asking people about colon and lung health.
CCCP also provided bags for attendees that included information on throat cancer (per Rita’s request), rain ponchos, Liquid IV, and mole skin for preventing blisters from paddling. The canoes landed at Potlach Park, and the event was then moved to the Skokomish Community Center for lunch, and 24 cancer survivors were honored and wrapped in blankets.
