On June 25th, the Squaxin Island Tribe held a Drum Making & Cancer Awareness event. A cancer survivor, Will Penn, shared a personal message on the importance of self-advocacy and annual health checkups.
Squaxin Island Elder, George Krise, led the drum-making workshop, with six participants completing drums and four others receiving drum kits to make on their own. Although the rawhide was challenging to work with, participants enjoyed the experience, learned about cancer and self-advocacy, and made new connections.
